Once upon a time there were five young men. These men were of average intelligence and therefore could do anything they put their mind to. Although they grew up within 5 minutes of each other, the usual activities (sports, education, and cultural dysfunction's) had minimal appeal. Oddly enough it was their endless search of a good time that brought them together. Pat Smith and Jack Sabbath met as children, and when their teenage years were so cruelly and inexplicably thrust upon them, Pat made the move towards wheat, hops, and barley. Of course, Jack did not want to be left behind and recruited the young George Burke, who at his age was a prodigy at their new favorite pastime. After an extensive weekend of partying, Jack regurgitated the words that would become their name and approach to creating music. It would also become a passion for 6 lifelong friends. A band was formed to further their lesser/grander pursuits. Jack would become the lead guitarist, Pat the lead vocalist, and George, the bassist. They practiced hard and they sucked. It was all of 6 months before they knew they couldn't play anyone else's music so they started to write their own. Now when people said it was out of tune or missing something they could coolly say "..it's supposed to be like that." After a long search for the right drummer, Jimmy Sturges, who was playing guitar in another popular local band was drafted. The final piece was added when Ed Smallman, who knew the dark secrets of this monster called music, brought his thunderous guitar playing to The Heaves. The band's songwriting talents had greatly matured and not too many people said they sucked anymore. When these five guys got together, they knew they had something special. The songs combine elements of punk, metal, and country and will take you on a journey through their Park Slope neighborhood. After all, The Heaves could have been surgeons, but anybody can use their hands. They wanted to use their minds and create. The Heaves have caught their essence; love of music and the endless search of a good time.
